Ozon Express plans to launch a delivery service for groceries and other goods by the end of the year, RBC said, citing a source in the e-commerce market.

The service will deliver mainly food products, prepared food, non-food products and private label goods, about 3,000 items in total. For this, the company will open 250 sq. m. The service will start working this year in Moscow.

The representative of Ozon confirmed such plans, however, noted that such a delivery format will be tested, and its full launch will depend on the test results. The company did not disclose the amount of investment in the project and the number of darkstores that it plans to open. The project will be developed by Marya Day, a former board member and director of supply chains for Magnit.

Ozon, according to Infoline for the first half of 2021, ranked 8th in the rating of the largest Russian retailers. Among the marketplaces, the company is second only to Wildberries. Its main shareholders are AFK Sistema by Vladimir Yevtushenkov and Baring Vostok. A year ago, the company conducted an IPO on the New York Stock Exchange, it raised a total of $ 1.2 billion.

Following the results of nine months of 2021, the total turnover from sales of the company amounted to 271.4 billion rubles. – 123% more in annual terms. The number of Ozon orders for the specified period increased by 196%, to 131.2 million units. The number of active buyers also increased by 87% to 21.3 million people. At the same time, the adjusted EBITDA loss increased from 8.1 billion rubles. up to 25.2 billion. The company itself explains this by large-scale investments in infrastructure, as well as active spending on IT development, marketing and research and development (R&D).
