The president of the National Electoral Council (CNE), Diana Atamaint, called on June 8, 2023 for political organizations to sort out their internal problems so that they can register their candidacies for the early elections.

In Pachakutik (PK) the new national coordination. The list headed by Guillermo Churuchumbi does not have CNE credentials and a Judicial process for the lawsuit filed by Churuchumbi.

Meanwhile, Marlon Santi He still works as outgoing national coordinator and seeks the CNE to recognize a National Electoral Tribunal reconstituted of PK to carry out the primaries.

On the other hand, in Democratic Left (ID) there are problems regarding who is in charge of the national presidency of the political party, if Enrique Chávez or Analía Ledesma.

As long as the organizations do not resolve their conflicts, “as an electoral authority we cannot settle neither for the one faction nor for the second. This for both cases, both for PK and for ID”, said Atamaint in statements to the press.

He called for them to resolve internal conflicts in an urgent so that they can participate in the electoral process this year. “It is not up to the CNE to resolve internal conflicts, but to the Electoral Dispute Tribunal and that takes time. Hopefully those problems will be overcome before the estoppel of the deadlines,” he said.

Political organizations can carry out processes of internal democracy until the June 10th and the 13 ends the period for inscription of applications. If the PK and the ID do not overcome their internal conflicts, the CNE will be unable to recognize to the board of directors or national coordination of the organizations and “unfortunately they would remain without registering candidacies nor will they be able to make alliances”, according to Atamaint.

PK Electoral Tribunal reorganized

Jessica Castilloa member of the PK National Electoral Tribunal (TEN), reacted upon learning that the CNE denied the request to carry out the process of oversight for the primaries.

It is located in Imbabura by the audience due to Churuchumbi’s demand. He anticipated that PK might summon a Political Council urgent to analyze the Actions to follow. “They are taking away our right to participate in this electoral process,” she criticized.

Santi awaited a response from the CNE, on June 7 he requested that the TEN be recognized as having three replacements.

Castillo commented that before the resignation of Marcelo Tipan, Palmira Paredes and Victor QuingaThe following remain as members of the outgoing TEN: Rafael Lucero, Castillo, Blanca Rodríguez, María Belén Álvarez and Tare Enomenga.

Approaches with Yaku Pérez

Santi pointed out in Teleamazonas that PK is looking for alliances for the presidential candidacy, while for assembly members it will go with its own figures.

He announced that this June 8 there would be a meeting with the presidential candidate Yaku Perez and indicated that he is “a natural ally”because he maintains an ecological proposal that was generated with PK when he supported his candidacy in 2021.

Until 1:40 p.m. of this day there was no pronouncement from Santi or Pérez about any alliance.
