Won and the Champions Cup he won (Real’s official website)
Real Madrid woke up today (Tuesday) to a sad morning: the legendary Paco Hanto died at the age of 88, just two days after making headlines under completely different circumstances. Only recently has Marcelo equaled him at the top of the club’s historic title table with 23 such after winning the Super Cup.
Hantu, who played for Real in the 50s and 60s and managed to play in the early 70s as well, is considered one of the club’s greatest players of all time. He is not only the champion, but the only one in history to have won the Champions Cup six times – five times in a row since the mid-1950s. He also won with Real no less than 12 championships, twice in the King’s Cup and once again in the Intercontinental Cup.
In an era where the trio of attacking stars were not yet quite in vogue, Hantu was part of a front that included the legendary Alfredo Di Stefano and Franz Puskás. In fact, Hantu dropped too much for Stefano the role of honorary president of Real, which he held until his death.
