The San Diego Padres defeated the Milwaukee Brewers 4-3 on Tuesday night at Petco Park, avoiding postseason elimination in Game 3 of the National League Division Series and trimming Milwaukee’s series lead to two games to one.
Padres Keep Season Alive Behind Michael King
Facing the end of their season, the Padres relied on late-inning heroics and a depleted bullpen to secure a 4-3 victory Tuesday night. San Diego added insurance in the sixth when Xander Bogaerts scored on a hustle play.
Manager Craig Stammen deployed right-hander Michael King out of the bullpen for the eighth inning. King pitched two days after a five-inning start in Game 2. Despite missing star closer Mason Miller—who was placed on the paternity list roughly 45 minutes before first pitch—San Diego locked down the win.
Fernando Tatis Jr. and Manny Machado drove in early runs for San Diego. Nick Pivetta yielded runs while pitching for the Padres. King earned his first save since 2023, his first in the postseason and his first for the Padres.
Win-or-go-home games from here on out, so yeah, we have no choice.

Brewers Drop 12th Straight Road Playoff Game
The Brewers fell behind early and could not complete another late-inning comeback, dropping their 12th consecutive postseason road game dating back to the 2018 National League Championship Series. That skid stands as the second-longest road losing streak in Major League Baseball postseason history, trailing only a 12-game slide endured by the Minnesota Twins franchise from 1925 to 1987.
Aaron Ashby and other Brewers relievers have pitched scoreless baseball in each of the first two games of the series.

That’s part of baseball. When you’re facing a good team with a good pitching staff, that’s part of it. We didn’t get the big hit at the big time, but do you fault Yelly for hitting one 107 there and Bogaerts making a great play? They’ve got a great team, and they played great defense tonight.
