According to a report of The Times in January this year, Chinese cars, household appliances and lightbulbs can be spied on using microchips. Also, Chinese laptops, voice control smart speakers, smartwatches, smart energy meters and refrigerators can be spied on with the help of Internet of Things.
China’s technology will be used against India
Questions are being raised on social media that when Israeli spy agency Mossad can remotely explode a pager, then electronic devices imported from China such as phones, TVs, electric home appliances can be used for spying purposes. Also, explosions can be caused in another country. In the case of India, this danger increases even more because if China gives such technology to its friend Pakistan, then it can be used against India.
One out of every 3 devices is Chinese
If the report is to be believed, China’s share in the electronic devices exported in the whole world is about one-third. This means that one out of every three electronic devices sold in the world is Chinese made. There has been a tussle between Beijing and America for many years over the spying of the Chinese telecommunication company Huawei. Along with this, India has also kept a distance from Chinese products in the 5G network. Earlier, America had expressed concern over the use of Chinese devices, they said that it can be used for spying, which was completely rejected by China, but the pager blast has again put Chinese technology under suspicion.
China’s ban on 5G
Germany has ordered the removal of electronic products of Huawei and Chinese telecom company ZTE from its 5G wireless network in the next 5 years. German Interior Minister Nancy Feser has taken this decision in view of the threat of espionage. Mobile network operators including Vodafone, Deutsche Telekom and Telefonica have been asked to remove telecom gear made by Huawei and ZTE from their 5G core networks. The Indian government has also asked telecom companies to stay away from Chinese telecom gear in 4G and 5G rollout.
Huawei accused of spying
Like Germany and India, America, Britain, Australia, Japan have banned Chinese products and their companies in 5G networks. In the year 2019, America banned Huawei, which made it difficult to sell semiconductor chips to Huawei. In such a situation, China and Huawei had to suffer a lot. In the last few years, concerns are increasing in many countries about Chinese-made devices with spying chips. After the Mossad pager blast incident, the campaign to ban Chinese products may gain momentum again.
China spies on US ports
Last week, the US Congress warned that a Chinese company had installed spying equipment on all port cranes across the US. According to the report, the cellular model was installed on the cranes, which was not required to be installed at the US port. Earlier, China was accused of installing GPS transmission on a batch of British Army caps.
China accused in Australia
Last year, China was accused of installing remote surveillance spy cameras on an Australian army building. In November 2022, the US government banned Chinese brands of telecommunications and video surveillance devices.
