Ecuador joins a list of 12 countries including Panama, Costa Rica, Brazil, among others, to whom the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO) has provided training and delivery of respiratory protection measurement equipment. With this, it is sought that the institutions lead initiatives together with their workers for the prevention of respiratory diseases, including actions of promotion and prevention in health and the verification of work conditions.
Two expert technicians in infectious and contagious issues and environmental issues provided this training, which is taking place in the country for the second time. This June 29, representatives of the 9 Zonal Coordinations and representatives of the Comprehensive Public Health Network (RPIS) were trained, who actively participate, as Javier Uribe, advisor of Health Services Systems of PAHO Ecuador, announced.
Ximena Aguirre, from the National Directorate of Environmental and Occupational Health of the Ministry of Public Health (MSP), pointed out that these trainings seek to strengthen the capacities of officials to prevent respiratory infections in the workplace, “as the governing body of health we are committed to our workers, to take care of their work areas and their health”, he highlighted.

The equipment delivered is used for the purpose of carrying out fit tests to find out if the biosafety equipment is safe for each person, and consists of a collar, two substances for fit tests and a hood for nebulization tests.
PAHO and the MSP work in a coordinated manner to prevent RPIS officials and workers from generating respiratory pathologies, for this reason an analysis of the stipulated strategies will be carried out constantly to confirm that their functionality is optimal.
