Paid leave for women during menstruation in Spain

by time news

Madrid,

Spain’s parliament has approved a bill allowing women to take paid leave during menstruation.

The bill, which includes measures to improve women’s health during menopause, was passed after a vote. 185 members voted in favor of the bill and 154 voted against. Three abstained. The referendum was seen as a victory for Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez’s Socialist government.

So far only a small number of countries around the world, including Japan, Indonesia and Zambia, offer menstrual leave. No European country has ever taken this historic decision. Spain is the only European country to have this distinction.

The Spanish Parliament has also approved another law strengthening protections for the rights of the LGBTQ community.
