“According to the provisions of the Government’s law, payments are provided only in case of the resignation of the entire Government, therefore, payments are not provided for the resignation of individual ministers,” the Government’s Communication Department stated in the reply sent to Elta.

As provided by law, after the formation of a new Cabinet of Ministers after the Seimas elections, members of the outgoing Government receive compensation in the amount of two months’ salary.

At that time, if the parliament did not approve the program of the new Government twice in a row or expressed no confidence in the Cabinet of Ministers, the Prime Minister would pay compensation in the amount of a month’s salary. Members of the Government would receive the same payment after the death or resignation of the Prime Minister.

If the Government had not regained the powers of the Seimas after the presidential elections held this year, the Cabinet of Ministers would also be entitled to compensation in the amount of a month’s salary.

ELTA reminds that President Gitanas Nausėda signed a decree on the updated composition of the Government on Monday evening. The head of the country approved the candidacies of two new ministers – Kazios Starkevičius and Aurim Pečkauskas. The latter will still have to take an oath in the Seimas.

Prime Minister Ingrida Šimonytė presented the composition of the renewed Government to the President last Friday. The head of the government is changing two members of the cabinet – Minister of Agriculture Kęstutis Navickas and Minister of Health Arūnas Dulkis.

The chairman of the current Seimas Economic Committee, conservative K. Starkevičius and the deputy health minister A. Pečkauskas were respectively nominated for these posts. There are no changes in other ministries – the names of the same ministers are submitted for approval.

The Cabinet of Ministers is formed and reconfirmed after the Government has returned the powers to the newly elected sworn-in President.

As provided by law, ministers are appointed and dismissed by the head of the country on the recommendation of the prime minister.
