Paju City, 4.57% tax credit when reporting and paying annual automobile tax in January 2025

by times news cr

Paju City announced that it will accept applications and payments for annual car tax until the 31st. Automobile tax is a post-payment tax that is levied twice every year in June and December, but if you pay the annual tax in advance all at once in January, you can receive a 4.57% reduction.

In addition to January, prepayment applications can be made in March, June, and September, and the deduction rates are 3.75%, 2.51%, and 1.25% of the annual tax amount, respectively. If ownership is transferred or the car is scrapped or canceled after annual payment, the automobile tax can be refunded for the remaining period excluding the period of ownership.

Although annual automobile tax payments must be reported and paid, Paju City plans to send annual payment invoices to vehicles that paid late payments last year to facilitate tax payment.

An official from Paju City said, “Although annual automobile tax payment is possible in March, June, and September, reporting and paying in January has the greatest tax savings, so please take advantage of it.” He added, “The number of phone inquiries increases rapidly on the last day of the payment period (the 31st).” As this may cause inconvenience in use, we ask that you adjust the payment timing to avoid the last due date.”

Meanwhile, as the basic pension selection standard has been significantly increased starting this year, the number of seniors receiving basic pension in Paju City is expected to increase.

The 2025 basic pension selection standard is 2.28 million won in monthly income for a single household and 3.648 million won for a married couple, which is an increase of 150,000 won and 240,000 won, respectively, compared to last year.

Accordingly, some seniors who previously did not receive basic pension due to exceeding the recognized income amount can now receive welfare benefits.

To receive the basic pension, application is required, and application can be made through administrative welfare centers in towns, villages, and villages across the country, branches of the National Pension Service, and the Welfare Service website, regardless of address.

For seniors with limited mobility, the National Pension Service operates a ‘visiting service.’ Seniors who wish to apply can contact the National Pension Service Customer Center (☎1355) and a NHIS employee will personally visit their home to assist with the application.

Seniors who have turned 65 can apply for basic pension from one month before the month of their birthday. For those born in April 1960, you can apply from March 1 and receive benefits from April.

As of December 2024, out of Paju City’s 83,500 elderly population, there are about 56,700 basic pension recipients, but it is expected that more seniors will receive basic pension due to this increase in the income recognition standard.

Woo Eun-jeong, head of the Department for the Elderly and Disabled, said, “We will focus on publicity by actively providing guidance on applying for basic pension so that people do not miss out on benefits because they are unaware of changes in the criteria for payment.”
