Paju City is promoting the ‘Bongilcheon Gongneung Waterside Square Construction Project’ by investing 800 million won in special adjustment grants from Gyeonggi Province.
The Gongneung Waterside Plaza construction project is a project to create a waterfront space under Bongilcheongyo Bridge so that residents can enjoy rest and leisure. Inside Gongneung Waterside Plaza, a circular walkway, waterside plaza, outdoor exercise equipment, convenience facilities (toilets), etc. It is scheduled to be equipped.
Paju City decided to first proceed with the ‘creation of public toilets along the banks of Gongneung Stream’, a long-awaited wish of residents of Jori-eup and Geumchon-dong, and began construction of public toilets in October of last year. Through two months of construction, the city completed the installation of a public toilet in the green area near the three-way intersection in front of Bongilcheongyo Bridge in Jori-eup (in the direction of Halla Vivaldi Apartments), and temporarily opened it to citizens on the 27th.
Public restrooms have been equipped with ‘safety emergency bells’ that connect to the police in case of an emergency, and there are plans to install additional closed-circuit television (CCTV) for crime prevention around the restrooms to prevent crime and ensure the safety of citizens. Public restrooms are open from 9:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., and are closed on weekends and public holidays. Operating hours are scheduled to be expanded in the future.
Paju City is discussing a river occupancy permit with the Han River Basin Environmental Office in relation to the creation of Gongneung Waterside Square, and plans to begin construction quickly as early as the first half of 2025.
Jeong Jeong-hee, head of the city management department, said, “Once a waterside plaza is created in harmony with Gongneung Stream, we expect that it will provide a space for leisure and rest for residents and contribute to improving the quality of life of residents.” He added, “We will do our best to create Gongneung Waterside Plaza.” He said.
Meanwhile, Paju City completed payment of basic income to farmers and opportunity income to farmers and fishermen in the second half of this year. The scale of support is approximately KRW 9.2 billion for basic income for farmers and KRW 4.8 billion for opportunity income for farmers and fishermen, totaling KRW 14 billion, and payments have been made to 16,808 farmers in the region.
Basic income for farmers is a project that provides a certain amount of money to guarantee farmers’ right to survive and provide social compensation for public interest production activities in agriculture and rural areas. This year, 300,000 won was paid in local currency twice in June and December, and a total of 15,740 people received support.
Opportunity income for farmers and fishermen is a policy that provides monthly support of 150,000 won to compensate for the creation of social value by farmers and fishermen and overcome the crisis of extinction of rural areas. It was first implemented in October this year and was paid to 1,068 people in the fourth quarter.
Starting next year, basic income for farmers and opportunity income for farmers and fishermen will be integrated and supported, and only farmers and fishermen with registered agricultural businesses will be able to receive opportunity income support. However, opportunity income for farmers and fishermen is paid only to those who meet the requirements such as residence area, residence period, farming period, and income conditions.
Jang Heung-jung, director of the Agricultural Technology Center, said, “We hope that this basic income for farmers and opportunity income for farmers and fishermen will contribute to the income of farmers in the region, and that it will also help revitalize the local economy.”
