by times news cr

The ‘Paju Booksori’, a festival of books and knowledge, and the ‘Paju Fair Book & Culture’, a complex cultural festival that reproduces stories in books as various cultural contents, will be held in the Paju Book City from the 6th to the 8th.

The ‘2024 Paju Booksori’, now in its 13th year, and the ‘Paju Fair Book & Culture’, held for the first time, will showcase the publishing city as a complex cultural and artistic city through musicals, plays, reading performances, fringe performances, and humanities lectures under the theme of ‘Books Alive!’

This year’s festival has been greatly expanded in scale and programs by simultaneously hosting ‘Paju Booksori’ and ‘Paju Fair Book and Culture’. The festival venue has also been expanded to include M5, Munbali Used Bookstore Alley Blue Box, and Munbal-ro (Dasan Bridge Intersection to Ichae Intersection) in addition to the Asia Publishing Culture Information Center.

The opening ceremony, which marks the beginning of the festival, will feature a musical concert titled ‘Books Alive!’ featuring Korea’s representative musical actors Oh Man-seok, Son Jun-ho, and Kim So-hyun, along with beautiful orchestral melodies.

The performance program includes the family musical ‘The Jungle Book’ based on the Nobel Prize-winning original work, the musical ‘Winter Wanderer’ re-created to commemorate the 10th anniversary of the late author Choi In-ho’s death, the play ‘2 Nights and 3 Days with My Mother’ which has been performed 955 times since its premiere in 2009, a book reading performance in which actors read books directly, a fringe performance of 8 works selected through a public contest, and street performances such as mime and magic. Musicals and plays must be reserved in advance through Naver Reservation.

At the heart of Paju Book City, the Asia Publishing Culture Information Center hosts a variety of stage programs, including ▲humanities lectures ▲book story performances ▲ecological experiences ▲picture book stories ▲reading sessions ▲author signing sessions, etc. The Asia Publishing Culture Information Center was selected as one of the ‘Korea Unique Venues’ and ‘Local 100 (100 Local Cultural Attractions)’ in 2023.

The fun is enhanced by the ‘Munbal Neighbors Kung-Jjak Kung-Jjak’ village festival with Munbal neighbors, various program spaces of related organizations such as the National Library of Korea, National Hangeul Museum, Korea Land and Housing Corporation, Kyobo Bookstore, and SCA Korea, special exhibitions and Art Market using books, paper, and stories as themes, and the Book Market with the participation of 56 publishers.

In addition, to help you enjoy the festival more, there will be an ‘Open House’ where 15 publishing companies, bookstores, and museums in Paju Book City will host experience, exhibition, and lecture programs.

Also, under the theme of ‘Unique Book Picnic’, an outdoor space (Book Picnic Zone) was created in the park next to Iseokgyo Bridge, where soft music is played and chairs and tables are placed to create a picnic atmosphere, allowing citizens to comfortably read books.

Eun-Jeong Woo, head of the Culture and Arts Department, said, “We have prepared a variety of programs for you to enjoy books at the beginning of the reading season, fall, so we hope that many people will come and soothe their bodies and minds tired from the heat wave.”
