Rawalpindi: The International Cricket Council (ICC) said on Monday that Pakistan was deducted six points in the World Test Championship (WTC) table while Bangladesh was deducted three points for slow over rate during the first Test in Rawalpindi. Bangladesh won the Test for the first time against Pakistan on Sunday. It achieved this historic victory after playing 14 matches against Pakistan. Bangladesh had to face defeat in 12 matches so far while only one match was drawn. Bangladesh won the Test for the first time by 10 wickets. Pakistan was deducted six WTC points for six overs slow and was fined 30 percent of its match fee. Bangladesh was deducted three WTC points and fined 15 percent of its match fee for three overs slow.

What did the ICC say in its statement?
“Hosts Pakistan lost six WTC points for bowling six overs below the allowable rate, while visitors Bangladesh were docked three points for bowling three overs below the allowable rate,” the ICC said in a release. As per Article 2.22 of the ICC Code of Conduct for Players and Support Staff, relating to slow over-rate, players have been fined five per cent of their match fees for bowling less than the allotted time.

Apart from this, according to Article 16.11.2 of the WTC conditions, a team is fined one point for every over short. After this defeat, Pakistan slipped to eighth place in the nine-team WTC points table while Bangladesh is at seventh place. Apart from this, Bangladesh’s star all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan was fined 10 percent of his match fee for violating the ICC Code of Conduct and one demerit point was also added to his account. The second and final Test between the two teams will also start in Rawalpindi from Friday.
