Rawalpindi: Bangladesh captain Nazmul Hasan Shanto on Sunday described his team’s first Test win over Pakistan as ‘special’ in the current conditions in the country. In a press conference after the 10-wicket win over Pakistan, Shanto said, “This is a very important win for us because the conditions were difficult for us in Bangladesh last month. There are still some problems there. But in Bangladesh we support each other and I am happy that this victory has brought a little smile on their faces.” He said, “We are happy with our performance and we want to give more happiness to our people in the second match as well. This was a special win for us, especially considering how we adapted to the hot conditions and pitch here.” Shanto said that he was confident of winning the match on the last day as the pitch was becoming difficult to play on and his team had some experienced spinners and good fast bowlers. He said, “I think Shakib and Miraz bowled very well today considering the conditions and we knew that with a lead of 90 runs, Pakistan would be under pressure on the last day.”
This is how the Rawalpindi Test match turned out
Pakistan were all out for 146 in their second innings, setting Bangladesh a target of 30 runs. Bangladesh achieved the target without loss in just 6.3 overs before tea on day five to register their first win against Pakistan. Openers Zakir Hasan remained unbeaten on 15 and Shadman Islam on nine. Earlier, Bangladesh’s pacers ripped through Pakistan’s top order with off-spinner Mehdi Hasan Miraz (4-21) and left-arm spinner Shakib Al Hasan (3-44) taking seven wickets together.
Pakistan declared their first innings at 448 for six. In response, Bangladesh scored 565 runs and took a lead of 117 runs. Pakistan resumed their second innings at 23 for one in the morning but lost wickets at regular intervals. Mohammad Rizwan, who scored 171 runs in the first innings, also scored the highest 51 runs in the second innings. But he did not get any help from the other end. Only four batsmen of Pakistan reached double figures. Apart from Rizwan, these include opener Abdullah Shafiq (37), former captain Babar Azam (22) and current captain Shan Masood (14). Apart from Mehdi and Shakib, three fast bowlers Shoriful Islam, Hasan Mahmud and Nahid Rana took one wicket each for Bangladesh. Pakistan was all out for just 146 runs in the second innings.
