Pakistan’s parliament has passed a law criminalizing chemical sterilization and punishment for perpetrators of a series of rapes.

Sexual violence against women and children has been on the rise in Pakistan in recent times. The voice was raised among the public that harsh punishments should be meted out to control this.

Following this, the new law was prepared to provide chemical contraceptive punishment for perpetrators of persistent rape. The Act also provides for the establishment of special courts to expedite sexual assault cases.

The law was approved by the Pakistani cabinet a year ago. In this case, the law was approved by the President of the Republic of Pakistan Arif Alvi. Accordingly, those involved in serial sex crimes will no longer be chemically sterilized.

However, some have expressed opposition to the law. Member of Parliament Mushtaq Ahmed said the law was against Islam and Sharia law. He said the proper punishment was to hang sex offenders in public.
