Islamabad: An open case of rigging in Pakistan’s elections has come to light. Angered by this, a senior bureaucrat of Pakistan has resigned. Apart from this, he alleged that the Chief Election Commissioner and the Chief Justice were involved in this election rigging. Rawalpindi Commissioner Liaquat Ali Chattha resigned from his post, taking responsibility for the rigging. This comment from Chattha has come when jailed former PM Imran Khan’s Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf party has started protesting alleging rigging in the February 8 elections. He spoke to journalists outside the Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium. Said in the conversation, ‘The candidates who were losing were made victorious.’ He said, ‘I am taking responsibility for all this wrongdoing and telling you that the Chief Election Commissioner and the Chief Justice are also involved in this.’ He resigned after admitting to rigging charges. He said that the independent candidates (supporting Imran) who were ahead by 80 thousand votes were deliberately defeated with fake seals. He said, ‘Stabbing the country in the back does not let them sleep.’
Nawaz’s party angry at Imran
Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) has criticized jailed former Prime Minister Imran Khan and his party for demanding US intervention in the matter of alleged ‘rigging’ in the February 8 general elections. Former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif’s party PML-N said, ‘This is against the sovereignty of Pakistan.’ PML-N leader Maryam Aurangzeb slammed Khan and his Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) party for inviting the US.
Imran had asked for help from America
Imran Khan in a special message sent to America on Thursday said that it should play its role and express concern about the ‘rigging’ in Pakistan’s general elections. According to the news published on the website of Express Tribune newspaper on Friday, Maryam, while addressing a press conference along with party leader Ataullah Tarar, objected to Khan inviting America to interfere in the country’s elections. They said, ‘Absolutely not, we are not slaves! This is against the sovereignty of Pakistan.
