ISLAMABAD: Former Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan described Pakistan’s agreement with the International Monetary Fund as “Treatment of Cancer with Aspirin”. IMF loans provide only temporary relief. This will lead to further crisis in the country. He mentioned that there will only be an increase in the number of loans.

He mentioned this in a televised address at his Zaman Park residence. He spoke criticizing the economic policies of the government. He said that Pakistan is heading towards anarchy like Sri Lanka.

The government led by Pakistan Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif is pushing the country into further crisis. The only way to get the country out of this is to hold general elections. He claimed that only a government with the support of the people of Pakistan can overcome the crisis and move forward efficiently.

After 10 days of negotiations, the Pakistan government and the International Monetary Fund reached an agreement on a $1.1 billion loan. But Pakistan failed to reach a staff-level agreement on loan withdrawal.
