New Delhi: Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has appointed Azhar Mahmood as the head coach of the Pakistani team for the upcoming five-match T20 series against New Zealand. The series will start from April 18 at Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium and will end on April 27 at Gaddafi Stadium, Lahore.
Azhar has played 164 international matches for Pakistan, in which he took 162 wickets and scored 2,421 runs. Before this, he had also been the bowling coach of Pakistani team from 2016 to 2019.
Also, Wahab Riaz has been made the team manager and Mohammad Yusuf has been made the batting coach. The responsibility of spin bowling will remain with Saeed Ajmal, who was also with the team on the previous tours of Australia and New Zealand. Who is Pakistan’s new coach Azhar Mahmood?
Pakistan’s new head coach Azhar Mahmood has played 21 Tests and 143 ODIs for the Pakistan team. He played cricket for Pakistan from 1996 to 2007. In Tests, Mahmood has scored 900 runs at an average of 30 while taking 39 wickets. Apart from this, Azhar has 1521 runs and 123 wickets in his name in ODI.
Mahmood has also played IPL
After 2008, no Pakistani player could play IPL. But despite this, Azhar Mahmood also participated in IPL from 2012 to 2015. He got a chance to play in IPL because of his British citizenship.
