Islamabad: The dates for presidential elections in Pakistan have been announced. The Election Commission of Pakistan has announced this on Friday. The Commission has said that voting for the Presidential election will be held on March 9. In this election, it is almost certain that former President Asif Ali Zardari will again get the top constitutional post of Pakistan after almost 11 years. The new president will replace current President Dr Arif Alvi, whose five-year term ended last year. However, he continues to hold office even after this because the new electoral college has not been formed yet.
The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) said in a notice that the presidential election will be held on March 9 in the National Assembly and all provincial assemblies from 10 am to 4 pm. According to the schedule released by the Election Commission, candidates for the concerned post can file nomination papers with the election authorities in Lahore, Karachi, Peshawar and Quetta before 12 noon on Saturday. The ECP said the sorting of nomination papers will be done by officials on March 4, and the nominations can be withdrawn the next day.
