Islamabad: The terrorist organization Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) has now become so strong that it has started ruling over areas of the country. Armed fighters of TTP and Lashkar-e-Islam (LI) are patrolling the Tirah Valley in the country’s northern state of Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa, causing panic among the people of the area. According to Pakistan’s leading media outlet Dawn News, local residents have appealed to the authorities to increase security in the valley. Dawn quoted people as saying that their security concerns have increased due to the re-activation of TTP and LI.
Terrorists roaming in the area with weapons
Locals say that the terrorists are present in Kamberkhel, Adamkhel, Thirai and Landawar areas of Shalobar as well as Peer Mela, Bhutan Sharif areas, but are not yet openly patrolling the main roads and markets. However, videos of armed TTP fighters roaming in Peer Mera market are going viral on social media, after which there is pressure on the security forces to take action. A propaganda material has been released on social media in the local Pashto language, in which the organization has claimed that they have complete control over Shalobar and Peer Thari area.
Pakistani security forces fled the area
Interestingly, while Pakistani security forces are frequently frisking and questioning civilians at security checkpoints, armed militants are roaming freely. Dawn quoted local residents as saying that after the arrival of TTP fighters, local police have almost disappeared from the bridge area.
Situation tense in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa
The report says that the situation in the area is very tense. The local people have lost faith in the Pakistani administration. At the same time, no one is coming out of their homes due to the fear of military operations against terrorists. Local people have to suffer a lot in such operations. A resident said that we cannot take the risk of going to any other place. Most of the people have not yet rebuilt their houses after the last displacement.
