Pakistan to investigate journalist’s killing in Kenya

Pakistan will investigate the killing of prominent journalist Arshad Sharif. The government of Pakistan has decided to appoint a judicial commission to investigate the murder. Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif announced this through a video message. Sheriff was shot dead by local police in Kenya on Sunday night.

It was decided to officially investigate the murder after the allegation that there was a mystery in the journalist’s death. Condemning the tragic incident, the Prime Minister assured the nation that an independent inquiry would bring to light all the facts about the murder. He added that the government will seek approval from the cabinet. The Pakistan Army has also asked the government to investigate the killing.

Information Minister Maryam Aurangzeb also said in a statement that the head of the judicial commission can appoint other members from the civil society and the media community and find out the facts. On Monday, the journalist’s wife released the information about the murder. Security agencies had accused the journalist of making anti-national speeches and engaging in seditious activities.

Arshad Sharif (49), an ARY TV reporter and TV anchor who was close to former Prime Minister Imran Khan, lived in Kenya. The police explain that Sharif was accidentally shot during the search in connection with the child’s abduction. Imran Khan’s Tehreek-e-Insaf Party and its senior leaders have condemned the killing of Arshad Sharif and demanded a detailed inquiry into the matter.
