New Delhi: Former cricketer Rashid Latif has claimed that there was some tension going on in the Pakistani team for a long time, due to which the players were sent to the army camp for training. PCB had adopted a unique method for training the players of Pakistan cricket team before the T20 World Cup 2024. The team led by Babar Azam had trained at the Army School of Physical Training in Kakul.
The Pakistan team had to go through a tough training session after complaints were raised with the PCB regarding the team’s fitness standards during the 2023 ODI Cup. It received negative feedback from netizens, with people even making fun of it. However, Rashid Latif appreciated this step of PCB.
The team will benefit from training
Former wicketkeeper-batsman Latif said, ‘The condition of the team was not looking very good… There was some tension within the team. They got a chance to stay together in an army training camp. If there was a camp in Lahore or Karachi, everyone would be on mobile and when the day was over, they would go to their rooms, use their mobile phones and come back in the morning.
He said, there were no mobile phones in the Army training camp, no distractions and everyone had to stay together in the Army training, which helped in strengthening the bond between the players. He said, ‘I agree that cricket-specific training should be given priority. But the reason was that perhaps the team was facing some kind of stress and hence they were sent for that training, to improve team bonding.
