SALORNO. A moment awaited for a long, long time. “How much? Decades, I’d say. This work has been talked about practically forever.” Mayor Roland Lazzeri He has joy in his voice. Salorno is preparing to launch the most ambitious operation in the (most recent) administrative history of the community on the border between Alto Adige and Trentino.
The tender has ended, the works have been assigned renovation of the Palazzo della Signoriapublic work by one twenty million euros of total expenditure, fifteen for the construction part which was therefore contracted out to a pool of South Tyrolean companies, made up of companies Plattner Ag, Geobau, Pescoller Laboratori, Pescoller Werkstaetten Gmbh, Unionbau Ag, Atzwanger Ag, Obrist Gmbh. The construction site will have to start as soon as possible, to arrive in time for the 2026 deadline set by the Pnrr, which is contributing 5 million towards the construction.
Mayor Lazzeri, finally sees the finish line. The gestation was long, very long.
If we limit ourselves to the tender, not even too much. The last day for companies to submit bids was December 18th. Of course, if we are referring to the total timing then the times are getting longer. This work has been talked about for decades in Salorno.
How complicated was it to complete the operation?
It was laborious. In 2017 we started with the purchase of the building and began to think about what to do. Then the idea competition phase began, in which over 50 technical studios and designers took part, so we selected ten of them who participated in the competition from which the name of the winning studio emerged. At that point the financing phase began and in the meantime there was participation in the Pnrr in the part concerning the valorization of the villages, with the assignment of the 5 million loan. Finally, the tender. And it’s not over.
What is still missing?
Furnishings are missing. As soon as the construction site has started we will have to throw ourselves into it headlong, first assigning the design task and then searching for the necessary financing.
Isn’t it time to celebrate victory yet?
Let’s say there is still a lot to do; This does not mean that this is not an important, historical moment. The awarding of the contract means that we are on the right track and makes us say that in two years we will be able to have our “home”.
Is the goal to make Palazzo della Signoria the beating heart of the community?
Exactly, the museum, the music school, the assembly hall, the library, spaces for associations, the tourist association, spaces available to the community will find their home there. The expense of over 15 million charges this work with enormous expectations and responsibilities. It is the most important work in the history of Salorno in recent decades, I would say for half a century now.
Opening in 2026?
No, too soon. More likely in 2027.
We will already be in the new legislature, I imagine we will want to stay and be mayor…
