The 28-year-old Palestinian who had barricaded himself since the morning in an apartment on the 6th floor of a building on Acharnon Street, initially threatening to commit suicide and later to blow up a gas cylinder, was arrested.

After an intervention by the Special Forces, the man was subdued, arrested, and taken to the Omonia Police Station.

It is noted that early in the morning, the 28-year-old had gone out onto the balcony holding knives and threatened to jump into the void. He then came out onto the balcony holding a gas cylinder, saying he would set it on fire to cause an explosion.

Strong police forces and firefighters rushed to the scene while a negotiator from the Hellenic Police tried to calm him down and convince him to surrender.

Due to his threats, the building where the 28-year-old was located was evacuated, as well as the Ministry of Rural Development, which was next door. At the same time, traffic was halted for several hours on Acharnon Street from the height of Marni Street to Stournari Street. Traffic in the area has now been restored.

According to information from the Police, the 28-year-old has psychological problems, and a few days ago, he threatened again to commit suicide, and for this reason, he had been transferred to a psychiatric hospital.
