Tomorrow (Friday) a vote against Israel is expected at the UN promoted by the Palestinians, and in Israel there is concern that the chances of stopping it are low.

“Our assessment is that the chance of stopping the clause that the Palestinians are trying to bring is low,” said Israel’s ambassador to the UN Gilad Erdan in an interview with Effie Trigger in GLAZ. “Nevertheless, I tell the other ambassadors that those who keep a hand in favor, make a death certificate for any possibility of future reconciliation.”

Erdan continued: “The Palestinians inserted a precedent clause – to establish that any Israeli presence in the Yash, civilian or security, is illegal. They request that the tribunal in The Hague decide what the legal meaning is for all other countries – this is an attempt to move to a state of confiscation.”

As I recall, bIn a resolution submitted by the Palestinians, the UN asks the Hague Tribunal to urgently submit an opinion that will determine “what are the legal consequences arising from Israel’s continued violation of the right of the Palestinian people to self-determination, its prolonged occupation, settlement and annexation of the Palestinian territory occupied since 1967 – including measures aimed at changing the composition the demographic and the status of Jerusalem – and the adoption of legislation and discriminatory measures related to it; How do Israel’s policies and practices affect the legal status of the occupation, and what are the legal consequences arising from this status for all countries and the UN.”

According to the wording of the request, the Palestinians essentially ask the court to determine that the “Israeli occupation” is not temporary as stipulated in Resolution 242 of the Security Council – that is, it should be ended by negotiations based on a territory formula for peace – but permanent, and one that has become an annexation of – Facto. The court may also recommend to the UN how to behave towards Israel, whether through operative measures, imposing sanctions or a boycott.

In Jerusalem, they fear that such a determination will give a significant boost to the BDS movement and other initiatives to boycott Israel. The government is fighting against the decision in coordination with the Americans, who are putting pressure on the Palestinians to drop it, without success.
