The national leader of the National Action Party (PAN), Marko Corteswarned that the new rules for monitoring the media, of the National Electoral Institute (INE)which include valuing opinions in the news and debates on radio and television, represent a “dangerous censorship”, which is sought to be imposed in favor of the Morena party.
By presenting one more complaint to the INE, for the “factional use and political manipulation of the State media against the Broad Front for Mexico,” Acción Nacional warned that freedom of expression is in danger ahead of the 2024 elections.

“We cannot allow a setback in the right to freedom of expression; The main characteristic of a democracy is respect for freedoms, but the National Electoral Institute (INE) on the one hand has a weak position regarding the political manipulation of the State media and on the other, has approved a monitoring regulation that includes assessing opinions during the news and debates on radio and television, which we reject,” said the leader of Acción Nacional, Marko Cortés Mendoza.
In the complaint presented by the PAN before the INE, the “permissiveness of the electoral authority with the public media” is highlighted, but, in contrast, they asserted, on July 7, the General Council of the INE approved an agreement through which approved the methodology and the catalog of radio and television programs that broadcast news, establishing the analysis of the contents, during the pre-campaigns and federal campaigns of the 2023-2024 electoral process.
In said agreement, they pointed out, “the assessment of the genres of opinion, debate and analysis of the newscasts and in entertainment programs or magazines” was incorporated, in view of which Acción Nacional considers that these cannot be the subject of a “positive” evaluation. or negative”, since in fact it violates the right of journalists to disseminate their opinions and carry out their work.
Likewise, they accused, the rights of the audiences to access and receive content that reflect the ideological, political, social, cultural and linguistic pluralism of the nation are violated; receive programming that includes different genres that respond to the expression of the diversity and plurality of ideas and opinions that strengthen the democratic life of society.
The complaint states that on the one hand, the INE intends to inhibit the development of free journalism, but instead allows the state media to cover favorable to Morena and unfavorable to any different political force.

Said complaint is against the Public Broadcasting System of the Mexican State, Channel Once TV, Channel 14, Channel 22 and those who are responsible, for the “imminent violation of the Constitution and the General Law of Electoral Institutions and Procedures.”
Finally, Marko Cortés warned that “only dictatorial regimes censor and manipulate the media to control information and weaken democracy, attacking opponents with lies and slander, inciting hatred and persecution.”
