Panama will suspend from Wednesday the flights con Venezuela in retaliation for a similar measure taken the day before by Caracasreported this Tuesday the Panamanian government.
“Today the director of civil aeronautics (Rafael Cárdenas) apply the retaliatory measure of suspending commercial air flights from Venezuela to Panama and Panama to Venezuela,” reported the spokesperson for the Panamanian government, Sareis Pineda.
The measure “must be applied starting tomorrow, July 31, at 8 p.m. (01:00 GMT on Thursday),” the official added at a press conference after the Minister council.
On Monday Venezuela reported that flights to and from will be suspended starting Wednesday Panama and Dominican Republic due to the “interventionist actions” of the governments of those two countries, which questioned the transparency of the re-election of leftist President Nicolás Maduro.
Panama ordered the withdrawal of its diplomats in Venezuela and put “on hold” relations with Caracas “Until a complete review of the minutes and the computer system for counting the votes is carried out, it will allow us to know the genuine will of the people,” said the President of Panama, José Raúl Mulino.
The protests in Caracas after the controversial triumph of Nicolás Maduro totals 12 dead.
