Panathinaikos won 2-0 against Atromitos in Peristeri with Mladenovic with a high hanging header in the 90+5′ defeating Tsintotas and giving a qualifying score to the semi-finals for the trefoil where he will find his opponent, probably PAOK.
Panathinaikos reached the semi-finals of the Betsson Hellas Cup after winning 2-0 in Peristeri and overturning it at the expense of Leoforos 1-2. In the next phase, he will likely face PAOK, who in the first match beat Panserraikos 4-0.
Scorer of the “golden goal” of the trefoil was Mladenovic with the Serb scoring in the fifth of the six minutes of stoppage time which the fourth man had picked up. The international full-back made a superb move a minute before the end, swapping the ball with Bernard who passed him a superb ball and Mladenovic latched onto a high-hanging header that took an odd deflection and sent the ball into Chitota’s left-hand post.
The greens had opened the scoring in the first half, with a shot by Perez from inside the area, with the Spaniard scoring his first goal in the shirt of Panathinaikos and who was one of the leaders of the field for the clover along with Bernard , Cerin and Mladenovic.
With several changes both teams
Both Ilic and Terim made several changes to the two lineups with the aim of reaching the qualification. In fact, the Turkish coach, among others, used Palasios as a starter in the first game after his injury, while after a while he also gave Perez and Cerin a starter shirt.
The clover entered the match from the first minutes to get the qualification. He shut down Atromitos behind the midfield but couldn’t find lanes towards the home team’s goal.
In fact, in the first half the performance of the greens was not as good as in the second as the shamrocks took phases, they were constantly in the territory of the Peristeri team and finally found the qualifying goal at 90+5′.
Threatened by static phases in the first 45 minutes
In the first 45 minutes, Panathinaikos, with Atromitos playing almost entirely behind the center, did not manage to create clear phases but only threatened from static phases, whether these were free kicks or corners.
The first good moment for the trefoil was lost in the 5th minute after a free kick by Bakaseta and a header by Perez who sent the ball just wide.
Atromitos threatened for the first time in the 16th minute with a shot by Kibrakidis which went well wide, while a shot by Bakaseta in the 20th minute of the match had the same result. The international midfielder brought the ball down outside the area, took the shot and sent the ball over Tsintota’s goal.
In the 32nd minute, “Baka” again found himself in a shooting position after a cross from the right of Kotsiras, but he sent the ball well over the goal of Atromitos.
Perez put the… spark
In the 36th minute, after a corner kick from the right, the defense of Atromitos was unable to clear. Kotsiras at the second post brought the ball towards the penalty spot, Akaidin found Perez with a headed pass and the Spanish midfielder made the shot with Tsintotas unable to react and seeing the ball in the back of his own net.
Three minutes later Bakasetas found himself in the area, took the parallel ball, made the play and sent the ball just wide. This was also the last good moment of the first half with the greens having another final with Akaidin’s header after a corner but it went high out.
The second half started with no changes for both teams. The greens again got the ball at their feet, tried to find a second goal and this time they were creating opportunities in the flow of the match.
Ongoing opportunities
The first of these was lost in the 57th minute when Mladenovic came in from the left, turned to Bakaseta who was untroubled in the penalty area and he took the shot which went high and wide.
Three minutes later the greens stole the ball. Geremegev found Cerin in the area with the Slovenian on his own with a backheel, made the place and Tsintotas blocked the ball.
In the 64th minute the shamrocks scored again with Geremeev taking a nice shot into the left side of Atromitos but the goal was disallowed, after the use of VAR, as the Swedish forward was in an offside position.
In the 76th minute, the greens had another good moment when, following a free kick from the left, Bakasetas came out of the screens unmolested, took the shot from the height of the penalty area, but again the ball went wide.
Mladenovic lit the fire… qualification
And the phase came at 90+5′ with Mladenovic putting Panathinaikos on fire with a superbly executed goal. A phase started by him who faked his opponent, gave Bernard and continued the movement towards the area to give a solution to the greens.
The Brazilian saw him make the move, lifted the ball, with the Serbian full-back latching on to a high-hanging header to send the ball into Tsintota’s net.
