Panserraikos “stuck” from the bottom of the standings, 1-0 Volos at Panthessalikos

by time news

After a great game – especially in the last minutes – Panserraikos won 1-0 against Volos in Panthessalikos, in the match that opened the curtain on the 8th day of the Super League championship. Hefte Betancourt scored the only goal of the game in the 63rd minute, and both teams were in goal and, especially “lions” Juan Ferrado, wasting opportunities for more goals.

The first good moment came in the 10th minute and it was for the visitors. Mohamed Salim Fares smashed home a powerful left-footed shot from the corner of the box, with Daniel Kovacs too powerful for the right-hand corner. After that, Luka Gugesashvili made a move in the other goal. The Georgian Panseraikos goalkeeper made a great save from Maximiliano Koba’s right volley (18′) and blocked Omri Altman’s weak shot (21′).

Shortly after half-time, due to a mistake in the middle of the field, the ball reached Matias Tomas but the visitors’ captain missed from the height of the big area. The “lions” came very close to the goal in the 42nd minute, in the regular season. First, Milos Deletic went too wide and couldn’t beat Kovacs, Pavlo Correa cleared clumsily high and Franco Ferrari was dispossessed before the ball crossed the line.

Both teams started the second half with a few mistakes. A good moment for Serraios in the 51st minute, with Dimitris Hadakia’s header after Tomas’ corner going over the left post of Kovacs’ back, but also in the 58th minute, and the Thessaly goalkeeper “shooting” in his closed area Milos Deletic’s powerful shot is a corner. The former AEK and Volos ace, however, got the revenge in the 63rd minute.

Not on the team, but establishing with a great vertical pass the 0-1 for Betancourt – a nice cross, volleyed by the 31-year-old Spaniard who reached five (5) goals this year. The home team pushed Savvas Poursaitidis, but were unable to create any special moves, except for a strong header from Alexandros Kalogeropoulos in the 83rd minute, which Gougesashvili found on hand.

The last few minutes were exciting. In the 86th minute, Betancourt and Juan Camilo Salazar counter-attacked, and the latter hit the right post of Kovac’s goal with a spot kick. Two minutes later, after a Lucas Villafanies shot and a poor save by Gugesashvili, Pedro Conte scored, but he was exposed and the goal was disallowed. Betancourt, in a new counter-attack, shot over the posts in the second minute of stoppage time for Volos to equalize on … the posts at 90+3′. Junior Mendieta shot, Gugesashvili made a save, the ball went to Amin Yassin Ashnoun, who hit the crossbar – the ball bounced off the post and away.

With eight minutes of stoppage time completed – out of the six played by Alexandros Katsikogiannis – Salazar squandered another great chance to score, when Kovacs stopped him in a four on four. The 0-1 remained until the end, with the “lions” celebrating a great “three points” that brings Panserraikos to seven points, which Volos also has.
