Bergamo was initially readmitted to the Association chaired by Trentalange, but the FIGC opposes the decision
The Bergamo case is already closed, even if it leaves behind a heavy aftermath of tensions, voices, contrasts. On the one hand the referees, on the other the Federation, in the middle one of the protagonists of Calciopoli, a story that even after 15 years cannot be forgotten. Through a resolution of The Hague, Bergamo was reinstated in the cadres of the Association chaired by Trentalange: he had come out of it just at the time of Calciopoli, when he had resigned thus avoiding the sporting process that had led to the disqualification and also to the radiation of many of the members involved.
The return of the former designator to the world of arbitration was made possible by a new rule, according to which it is possible to be readmitted to the Hague even if one has been out for more than four years. Hence the recovery of Bergamo, which in the intentions of Trentalange – and perhaps even more so of his deputy Baglioni – should have been useful for the growth of young people in its section, that of Livorno. In short, no position of responsibility at national level, but the attempt to exploit his experience with the boys, a weakness of referees for some time struggling with vocation crises.
The reintegration of a character so discussed, however, could not go unnoticed nor be accepted in silence by the Federation; rumors of his direct interventions and his calls to A’s referees (firmly denied by those concerned) created further turmoil. Gravina intervened with a decision, also in accordance with the provisions of article 36 of the Noif in point 7: the membership of anyone who has voluntarily withdrawn, with resignation or failure to renew the membership, from a procedure instituted or a sanction imposed against him is prohibited.
