The Pope commends the contribution of the “Centesimus Annus Pro Pontifice Foundation” for the dissemination and proper understanding of the Church’s social teaching.

Pope Francis said this while addressing a group of one hundred and eighty people who participated in the foundation’s conference at the Vatican on Saturday (08/10/22), evaluating the activities of this foundation.

The Pope said that the Foundation “reads the Church’s social teaching from within the complex economic and social world and can therefore be constantly compared to an ever-changing reality”. It is stated that it will not be development.

Pope Saint Paul VI explained that development cannot be reduced to mere economic progress and to be authentic development, it must be comprehensive, that is, aim at the betterment of each individual and the whole person, quoting from the famous papal encyclical “Populorum Progressio”. Everything depends on how we look at reality, the Pope said, and therefore the future calls for a new vision and reminded that each one, in his own grandchild, is called to nurture a different way of looking at the world, starting with individuals and everyday life situations.
