Thiruvananthapuram: Varkala’s Papanasham Beach has been featured in the pages of ‘Lonely Planet’ publication, which is known as the traveller’s bible. Lonely Planet’s beach guidebook has chosen Papanasham as one of the 100 most beautiful beaches in the world that travelers should visit. Other Indian beaches that made it to the list are Palolam in Goa and Swaraj Beach in Antaman.

Lonely Planet opens up a world of opportunities for beach tourism in Kerala. The new news is encouraging for the comprehensive development projects being implemented in Kerala Tourism Varkala to attract tourists by utilizing the potential of the tourism industry.

Located 45 km north of Thiruvananthapuram, Varkala’s Cliff Beach is one of the major tourist destinations in the state with many features. Varkala is also a major pilgrimage center where the Sivagiri Mutt founded by the social reformer and spiritual leader Sri Narayanaguru is located.

Tourism Minister P. A. said that it is a remarkable recognition that Varkala beach has been included in the list of the best beaches in the world. Muhammad Riaz said. Lonely Planet is the authoritative magazine cherished by those who turn travel into entertainment. It is the guide of billions of travelers from all over the world.

The recognition given by Lonely Planet will boost the reputation of Papanasham Beach. The development works to make Varkala a world class tourist destination will be implemented in a timely manner. He added that infrastructure and security arrangements will be improved through activities that do not harm the natural beauty and eco-structure of Varkala.

Papanasham Beach is a very special place geographically. One of the major features of Papanast is the beautiful rock-cut underground monument called ‘Varkala Formation’ among geologists.

Varkala is peaceful and beautiful. Beautiful beaches, Sivagiri Mutt, Ashram etc are major attractions of Varkala. Varkala beach known as Papanasham is popularly known as ‘Dakshina Kashi’.
