The director general of RTS, Pape Ale Niang, has been working behind the scenes to soften the tense relations between the opposition and the government for a little over three months. According to the daily magazine “Confidential Dakar”, broadcast by Dakaractu, the journalist is gradually becoming an informal mediator between the two camps. This former columnist is committed to establishing a climate of peace for the “supreme interest of the country”.
With this in mind, Pape Aly Niang recently met former Prime Minister and failed Bennu candidate, Amadou Ba, at his home in Almadies. The meeting, requested by Amadou Ba, took place in daylight and lasted more than an hour. The two men, longtime friends, talk easily, with Pape Aly trying to ease current and future tensions between the new regime and the opposition. Despite multiple imprisonments under the Macky Sall regime, the journalist holds no grudges.
Confidential Dakar, citing Ouar Dakaractou, underlined that Pape Aly Niang advised the new authorities to find a favorable solution to the situation of the press, especially with regard to taxes. He aspires to play the role of peacemaker for a peaceful regime, like his mentor, the former boss of Sud, the late Babacar Touré.
