Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) President Nazmul Hasan Papon has agreed to resign. He was serving as the BCB president for the third term.

On Thursday (August 15), Papon agreed to the resignation of a BCB director. The director confirmed this to RisingBD on condition of anonymity.

He said, ‘This morning Papan Bhai informed about his resignation. He is willing to reform the board.’

The BCB president has been in hiding since the fall of the Sheikh Hasina government on August 5. It is known that his wife is staying in London. BCB director Enayet Hossain Siraj is also staying at the same place.

Ismail Haider Mallick, another director known as Papon’s right-hand man, is based in the Middle East. RisingBD has confirmed that 13 elected directors of BCB, including Papon, are in hiding.

The proceedings have come to a standstill as influential directors of BCB, including Papon, have gone into hiding. Even if there is a Women’s World Cup ahead, they can do any work. Janadashek directors in the country are holding meetings on this issue from time to time.

Meanwhile, they informed the position of the board to sports adviser Asif Mahmud Sajeeb Bhuiyan. Now they are waiting for the government outline.

What can happen after Papon’s resignation? According to the constitution, a quorum of nine is required to pass any decision. Meanwhile, RisingBD has confirmed that the quorum including directors Mahbub Anam, Iftekhar Rahman, Akram Khan, Kazi Enam, Jalal Yunus, Fahim Sinha, Khaled Mahmud Sujan, Sazzadul Alam Bobby is ready.

Now they will take refuge in the Sports Ministry. If they so decide, two vice-chairmen will be elected from among the directors who continue the activities of the board. Anyone can be elected president from among them.

Beyond that, if the directors voluntarily resign simultaneously and a new board comes in, the ICC’s ban may come as a result of government interference. The directors are trying to follow the path that needs to be taken to keep cricket alive by communicating with the Sports Ministry.
