Paralyzed after Ciao Darwin: the Rome prosecutor’s office investigated four people in the production of the TV program
On April 17, 2019, Gabriele Marchetti’s life changed forever. The 56-year-old from Rome at the time participated in the Ciao Darwin program conducted by Paolo Bonolis. During the famous game of reels, the man unfortunately fell violently hitting his back and has been paralyzed ever since. Marchetti has become quadriplegic and is therefore immobilized from the neck down.

“My life was destroyed by a game”, said the man in an interview with Corriere della Sera a few days after the decision of the Rome prosecutor to investigate in various ways four people from the production of Ciao Darwin (Sandro Costa, Massimo Porta, Massimiliano Martinelli and Giuliana Giovannotti). For them the accusation is of very serious personal injury, wrapped up by Marchetti’s statements made to the investigators in the days following the accident. The man declared that he had completed the obstacle course of the “genodrome” without adequate training and above all without being adequately informed of the risks.
The prosecutor Alessia Miele explained in the indictment against the directors of Canale 5 that the “cylinders” were made more slippery to increase the difficulty of the test and precisely this choice would have caused Marchetti to fall, who violently slam of the tub was paralyzed.
