Paramount and Skydance’s highly anticipated film, “Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One,” has exceeded expectations with $7 million in previews. The film was shown in 3,300 locations and will expand to over 4,000 theaters, including IMAX and PLF, today. It is worth noting that the $7 million figure does not include the PLF money from Monday shows. The previous installment in the franchise, “Mission: Impossible – Fallout,” set a record with $6 million in previews. In comparison, “Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny” had $7.2 million in previews.

According to Rotten Tomatoes, the audience score for “Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One” is 94%. To promote the film, Tom Cruise and filmmaker Christopher McQuarrie embarked on a tour, visiting cities such as Toronto, Atlanta, Miami, and Washington DC, to greet fans at cinemas.

In other box office news, “Sound of Freedom,” starring Jim Caviezel, continues to perform well with $4 million on a weekday, surpassing “Insidious: The Red Door,” which earned $3.48 million. “Sound of Freedom” has now accumulated a total of $49.7 million in its eight-day run, and it is expected to experience a 30% decline in its second weekend, earning around $13-14 million. “Insidious: The Red Door” has reached a five-day total of $40 million.

In exclusive updates, “Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One” is projected to earn between $6-7 million in previews, surpassing the previous film in the franchise. These figures are subject to change. Additionally, while previews for the film began today, there were PLF fan screenings on Monday, which are already included in the estimate.

“Dead Reckoning” is one of the longer films of the summer, with a runtime of 2 hours and 43 minutes. However, the action-packed film offers a unique experience unlike any other “Mission: Impossible” or “Fast and Furious” movie. Paramount aims to break a five-day record for the “Mission: Impossible” franchise with a Wednesday start, taking advantage of the film’s length and limited showtimes. In comparison, Disney’s “Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny” opted for a Friday launch and earned $60.3 million over three days before July 4.

With a 98% certified fresh rating on Rotten Tomatoes, “Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One” is projected to earn around $90 million domestically in its five-day opening and exceed $250 million worldwide. Last year, Tom Cruise’s “Top Gun: Maverick” achieved great success, earning $19.3 million in U.S. previews, $126.7 million in the domestic opening, and $256.4 million worldwide. The film ultimately grossed $718.7 million domestically and $1.49 billion worldwide, making it the top domestic film of 2023 and the second highest-grossing global film after “Avatar: The Way of Water.”

Even if “Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One” falls short this weekend, it is important to remember that Tom Cruise’s movies often have a strong performance in the long run. “Mission: Impossible – Fallout” opened with $61.2 million domestically and went on to earn $220.1 million domestically and $791.6 million worldwide.
