New Delhi: Former opener Gautam Gambhir, who was a member of India’s World Cup team, was on Tuesday appointed as the new head coach of the Indian men’s cricket team by the BCCI. The board hopes that he will bring “firmness and leadership” to the position which was recently held by Rahul Dravid with “great success”. Gambhir, a 42-year-old left-handed batsman who played a key role in India’s 2011 ODI World Cup win, was a frontrunner to replace Dravid. The Cricket Advisory Committee comprising Ashok Malhotra, Jatin Paranjape and Sulakshana Naik unanimously recommended Gambhir’s name.
The tenure of these three also ended
Along with Gautam Gambhir, the tenure of his three assistant coaches has also ended. This includes bowling coach Paras Mhambrey, batting coach Vikram Rathore and fielding coach T Dilip. Rathore has been with Team India since the 2019 World Cup. BCCI said in its statement- The board also congratulates Paras Mhambrey (bowling coach), T. Dilip (fielding coach) and Vikram Rathore (batting coach) for their very successful tenure. BCCI appreciates their contribution and wishes them all the best for the future.

The support staff will be of Gambhir’s choice
Team India’s support staff will also be of Gautam Gambhir’s choice. The head coach of the team always chooses his assistant coaches. When Ravi Shastri became the head coach, Bharat Arun was the bowling coach, Sanjay Bangar was the batting coach and R. Sridhar was the fielding coach. In his second tenure, only the batting coach was changed and the rest Arun and Sridhar remained. Now Gautam Gambhir will choose the fielding, batting and bowling coaches of his choice.
