Berlin – Ben * was born with brain damage. The boy was Claudia W.’s eighth child. At three and a half years of age, he could not walk, sit or speak. Usually the child kneeled or crawled. On June 6th last year the boy was bathed like every evening. His father Abdallah K. took him to the bathtub in the Buch apartment. The boy also knelt while bathing.
Abdallah K. turned on the faucet and removed the lever so that Ben would not intensify the water jet. Allegedly he also took the plug out of the tub so that the water could drain off. Then Abdallah K’s cell phone rang and the child’s father went out onto the balcony. The phone call lasted 36 minutes, according to the investigation. Nobody in the apartment noticed that Ben had fallen over in the bathtub and his head was under water. When his mother finally pulled him out of the full bathtub, it was too late. Twelve days later, the boy died in a hospital as a result of the accident.
