A couple of young parents from Holon were arrested yesterday by the Merhav Ayalon police on suspicion of abusing their nine-month-old baby daughter, who is hospitalized in a stable condition in the pediatric ward of Schneider Hospital in Petah Tikva.
Last night, the Magistrate’s Court in Bat Yam extended the detention of the parents, who deny the suspicions against them, by five days.
Yesterday morning, the police received a report from the Schneider Children’s Hospital, about a toddler who arrived at the hospital with several fractures in various places on the body over a short period of time, including a skull fracture.
After a genetic disease was ruled out, and after the current hospitalization, it became clear that there was a real suspicion of intentional injuries. Following the report, Ayalon police officers arrived at the hospital and arrested the parents, a 24-year-old mother and a 28-year-old father.
The parents denied what was attributed to them and claimed that they did not know how the girl was injured, even though she was not in a daycare center.
Despite the parents’ denial, the police decided last night to bring the parents from Holon to the Magistrate’s Court in Bat Yam, where they wanted to extend their detention on suspicion of abusing their nine-month-old baby daughter.
The court that granted the police request, ruled that there was a reasonable suspicion that the parents had indeed carried out what was attributed to them and extended their detention by five days. From the Schneider Hospital in Petah Tikva, it was reported that the nine-month-old baby is in a stable condition and is hospitalized in the pediatric ward.
