Gender Equality and Sustainability at Paris 2024

Gender equality and sustainability are the main elements of the Paris 2024 Olympic Games that set them apart from all previous editions.

For the first time, the ratio of athletes in an edition of the Olympic Games will be one female athlete for each male athlete competing. It has been a real marathon for women to get here, but this year all that will change.

Another way Paris 2024 is striving to provide a better experience for everyone is through sustainability, with the organizing committee aiming to host an event that is better than ever, being more responsible, sustainable, united, and inclusive.

The Games are committed to halving their carbon footprint compared to previous editions, reducing carbon emissions with innovative energy models, minimizing the impact of all materials, from spectator seats to tents, chairs, beds, every tennis ball, and much more. A clear example is the fact that it will be possible to swim in the Seine River for the first time in over 100 years, and none other than Anne Hidalgo, the Mayor of Paris, was the first to enter the river to prove this.

New Sports at Paris 2024

Being the only sport to make its Olympic debut in Paris, breaking is joining the action sports list, a cycle after surfing, skateboarding, BMX freestyle, and sport climbing made their debuts at Tokyo 2020.

Also known as breakdancing, the sport’s debut will be even more exciting due to the venue – La Concorde – as the action will take place alongside skateboarding, 3×3 basketball, and BMX freestyle.

The idea of this venue is to mimic an urban environment, where action sports will be practiced while spectators enjoy music and activities, surrounded by the best in their disciplines. The action will span almost the entire duration of the Games, with events taking place from the day after the Opening Ceremony on July 27 until the day before the Closing Ceremony on August 10.
