In contrast, dozens of boats transported approximately 7,000 athletes and artists along a 6-kilometer route along the Seine River.

The boats were equipped with cameras that allowed viewers watching on television or their phones to see up close. Departing from the Austerlitz bridge, the parade sailed past the Notre-Dame Cathedral, reaching near the Eiffel Tower after passing under bridges and gates, including the Pont des Arts and Pont Neuf, and close to many of the landmarks of the French capital.

More than 85 heads of state and government watched the opening ceremony, along with over 300,000 spectators from the banks of the river, with about 80 giant screens along the route. Approximately 45,000 police officers were present to ensure the security of the ceremony, including special intervention forces. Snipers were deployed on top of buildings along the route, and there was a drone defense system in place. Nearby subway stations were closed, as were many of the bridges. No aircraft were allowed to fly over Paris, unless part of the ceremony.

In 2028, the Games of the 34th Olympiad will be held in the USA, specifically in Los Angeles. They will be the first Summer Olympic Games to take place in the USA since the 1996 Summer Olympics in Atlanta. They will also be the first Summer Olympic Games of the 21st century to be held in the USA.

Additionally, 32 years after Sydney, the 35th Olympiad is scheduled to return to Australia, with Brisbane becoming the third city in the country (after Melbourne and Sydney) to host the 2032 Olympic Games.
