The Bishop of Orihuela-Alicante (Spain), Bishop José Ignacio Munilla, announced through social networks that journalists from the Spanish public television (RTVE) distorted the testimony of Christian faith of a German athlete during the Olympic Games in Paris.

The episode happened during the broadcast of the women’s final shot, when Germany’s Yemisi Ogunleye had to surpass her rivals’ mark of 19.86 meters. In her final throw she managed to reach 20 meters and was declared the Olympic champion.

While interviewing the athlete, RTVE’s special delegate asked the athlete to explain her feelings about winning the gold medal in her last throw, and the woman answered in English:

“It’s incredible. In the last release I didn’t think of anything. I was just like [diciendo]: Oh God, this is the time. Show the world that you are real and that everything is with you. And, through that prayer, I have experienced so much joy and so much peace that my mind and heart were calm when I was in the throwing circle. And I knew that was the moment. God was going to do it and all I had to do was believe and trust that He would do it. And when I saw where the weight had dropped, I was overwhelmed and amazed.”

The journalist told the audience this in Spanish:

“Ogunleye’s words: that he was at peace at the moment, that it was incredible to receive him in the last address. And he also talked about the atmosphere and emotions after winning a gold medal in the last shot put. “It was huge.”
