Paris 2024: Emmanuel Macron opens the Olympic Village on Thursday

by time news

French President Emmanuel Macron will inaugurate the 2024 Olympic Village, located in the suburbs of Paris, on Thursday in “…an important step towards the Games this summer in Paris”, according to the spokesperson of the French Republic.

The head of state will attend the “handover of the keys” by the company that delivers the projects of the 2024 Olympic Games (Solideo) to the organizing committee. The venue will officially “open” in July just before the Olympic and Paralympic Games.

This “village of athletes”, combining Saint-Denis, Saint-Ouen and Saint-Denis Island, near the Seine, is Solideo’s largest project, with 2,800 homes to be delivered and almost 14,250 beds.

According to the entourage of the French president, who had already visited the site when construction began in October 2021, the opening on Thursday (29/2) is “… proof that France is capable of delivering this spectacular Olympic on time village”, which “has mobilized almost 4,000 workers”.

And all this within the announced budget, with “…646 million euros of public support, of which 542 million euros come from the State, for a total budget of approximately two billion euros”. The Elysée quotes an additional cost of less than 3% excluding inflation.
