They are called CPJs — Games preparation centers — these places that delegations will use to prepare for the Paris Games, often before entering the Olympic village. As required by the International Olympic Committee (IOC), Paris 2024 has established a catalog, listing more than 1,000 training infrastructures, meeting precise criteria desired by the international federations.

“We have done an enormous amount of work to list these sites, which we call centers of sporting excellence,” explains Romain Lachens, director of engagement at Paris 2024. These sites will constitute a legacy of the Games, since the links that the communities created with the delegations will continue and that other courses will be organized after the events. »

In London, in 2012, a third of the 670 preparation centers listed had welcomed athletes, who came either with their national federation or with their national Olympic Committee. Delegations are invited to draw from the catalog, before negotiating directly with the communities where they wish to settle. And this everywhere in France, since the CPJ extends well beyond Île-de-France.

Thus, part of the Saudi delegation will take up residence in Eure, while South Africa will settle in Sète and Montpellier (Hérault) and Kenya in Miramas (Bouches-du-Rhône). Proximity to the competition sites requires, the Ile-de-France cities will have their share of the cake, notably with the coveted Team USA in Eaubonne (Val-d’Oise). Many communities are establishing close links, so that exchanges between athletes and the population are organized.
