Between the intoxicating rhythms on Sunday of the king of Congolese rumba Ferre Gola and the baskets of Paris Basketball on Thursday, the Arena Porte de La Chapelle (Paris XVIII) is the scene this Tuesday of an XXL employment forum dedicated to the Olympics. It’s the last one before the Olympic cauldron goes up in flames in three months. Called “The games are recruiting”, it offers, on site, from 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m., more than 10,000 positions (with or without qualifications) to be filled “during and after” the largest quadrennial sports festival.

The missions are located in Île-de-France, largely on the Olympic sites. Sixty partner companies and service providers of the global event (Accor, Keolis, SNCF, Decathlon, Derichebourg, Enedis, RATP, Onet, Sodexo Live!…) and 10 training organizations, all divided into five thematic villages, will be there.

“It can lead to a permanent contract like a summer job”

Among the profiles currently actively sought, security guards, housekeepers and valets, laundry sorters, cashiers, launderers, cleaners, cleanliness team leaders, forklift drivers, bus drivers, entertainment facilitators cultural activities, event managers and even lifeguards.

“There is no age limit. It can lead to a permanent contract like a summer job,” we explain to the prefecture of the Ile-de-France region which is piloting the event with Paris 2024, the city of Paris and France Travail Île-de- France. “Jobs are mainly fixed-term, but there are long-term prospects in sectors that seek to recruit massively,” we observe at Paris 2024.

And to cite the catering sector where “more than one employer in two (60%) declares that they have difficulty recruiting, in particular for waiter and cook positions” or that of transport where the SNCF and the RATP are hiring on a permanent contract from today “to meet the needs of the event, while guaranteeing those recruited sustainable employment prospects for the future”.

Many security positions

Unsurprisingly, it is the private security sector, the one where the needs are the most urgent and important, which will be best represented at the forum with 32 “companies” which are still struggling to find strong forces, this branch of activity facing a labor shortage for several years.

Next comes the sports and events sector, represented by eight companies. Seven cleaning-waste management companies and as many specialized in the hotel, catering and tourism industry will also try to find rare gems. Finally, the logistics-transport-energy sector will have six ambassadors looking for reinforcements.

In “the final stretch of recruitment”, the Dutch group Randstad arrives with some 2,000 offers, mainly temporary missions in the service of Paris 2024 and its partners. Main targets? Hosts and hostesses responsible, in stadiums, for welcoming and guiding spectators.

“We need men and women whatever their age, available and with good mobility. The special skill required is motivation! Fluency in English is a plus, but not required. Taking part in the Games is a great label on your CV, a unique experience to live once in your life,” praises François Moreau, general secretary of Randstad France.

The recruitment giant is also looking for chefs, clerks, dishwashers and even meal preparers in the catering industry. “For these positions, we need professional experience,” he explains. Finally, in terms of logistics, Randstad will try to convince strong handlers to commit to the Olympic adventure to transport “athletes’ equipment safely” like poles and bows.
