Help detect suspicious devices during the Games rather than working at your desk. This is what the Ministry of the Interior will propose to its administrative staff during the Paris 2024 Olympic Games.

Faced with the lack of resources and especially personnel to ensure the security of the event next summer, civil servants or contractors from the Ministry of the Interior and Overseas Territories, but also from the Paris police headquarters will be called to set foot in the stirrup, only for volunteers who can “participate in search missions for suspicious devices in support of specialized services”, according to information from France Info which we are able to confirm.

A bonus of 70 euros per day

These personnel will patrol the field in addition to specialized services such as dog teams. To do this, candidates will still have to complete a five-day training course, or 30 hours in total, to train in the detection of explosive devices, but not only that. The concepts of security perimeters, search techniques on people, vehicles or buildings, as well as the management of public transport will be covered. In return for this assistance, a bonus is provided for volunteers. This is still under negotiation, but should be around 70 euros per day.

Regardless of this remuneration, these are reinforcements for the moment well received by the police unions, who still fear meeting the enormous needs on the ground with 30,000 members of the police required on average every day, and up to ‘to 45,000 for the opening ceremony. The only doubt concerns the mobilization of uninitiated personnel: who will monitor their actions, and what responsibilities could be incurred in the event of errors on the ground or major incidents.
