If the Paris 2024 organization must still rule in the coming days on a possible exclusion of Emilie Gomis from her role as ambassador, the former basketball player will indeed be ousted from the athletes’ commission of the French national Olympic committee.
According to our information, the CNOSF ethics committee, which had been contacted by the president of the French Olympic movement David Lappartient, in fact decided, at the end of December, to propose the removal of Gomis for “proven violation of ethical principles”. A proposal which will be put into effect on Thursday, during a meeting of this athletes’ commission.
If Gomis defended herself before the ethics committee by arguing that she had withdrawn her controversial post on her own, that she had sent another message of explanation and a letter of apology addressed on December 8 to the Minister of Sports, Amélie Oudéa-Castéra. She even argued that she must enjoy, like all citizens, freedom of expression protected by the European Convention on Human Rights. But the ethics committee remained intransigent in the face of the principle of neutrality of its members who must refuse all discrimination and provocation. He therefore said he was in favor of the exclusion of Émilie Gomis from the High-Performance Athletes Commission.
