The first qualifiers for the Olympic Games in canoe-kayak are known. Thanks to their performances at the World Championships in Lee Valley (United Kingdom) and at the World Cup round in Vaires-sur-Marne last week, four Tricolores were chosen by the French Canoe-Kayak Federation to represent the Blues in the slalom events. Marjorie Delassus and Nicolas Gestin are the lucky ones in canoe slalom, Camille Prigent and Titouan Castryck in kayak slalom and kayak cross.
“The national technical director of the French canoe-kayak federation, after consulting the selection committee and validation of the FFCK executive office, communicated to the CNOSF his proposal for the Olympic selections in Canoe and Kayak Slalom. These are those who are destined to become the first members of the French delegation to the Paris 2024 Games,” it is written on the FFCK website. These four qualifiers will be officially designated next week after (quasi-automatic) validation by the CNOSF.
“I’m relieved, super happy”
The only slalom tricolor to have already participated in the Olympic Games in Tokyo in 2021, Marjorie Delassus will be able to build on her fourth place last week at the World Cup, at home, on the same waters as the next Olympics. “I’m relieved, super happy. The year has been difficult and I’m so happy that it ends with this selection. Tokyo experience will be a plus. It will help me in the way I approach the competition even if, in Paris, everything will be different, tenfold,” she reacted in comments reported by Sud Ouest.
Another great chance of a medal, Nicolas Gestin, crowned vice-world champion in 2023 and winner of the general classification of the World Cup in 2022, will also be taking part in canoe slalom. In kayak slalom and kayak cross, Camille Pringent comes from a fifth place in Vaires-sur-Marne while Titouan Castryck has just scored his first World Cup victory, in France no less. In short, the tricolor canoe-kayak is going well!
The additional selected in Kayak Cross will not be known until June 2024 at the end of the Olympic Qualification Tournament, for which Boris Neveu, winner of the kayak cross round last week, should participate.
