The Paris 2024 Olympic Games are taking up space in the minds of the French. According to an Odoxa survey for RTL and Winamax published this Sunday, January 7, the two weeks (July 26 – August 11) of the Olympics will be followed by 58% of those questioned, all audiences combined, and by 74% of sports fans.
42% of French people also announce their intention to follow the Paralympic Games, from August 28 to September 8, also in Paris. Still according to this survey, 35% of respondents cite the Olympics as the sporting event they are most looking forward to this year ahead of the Euro football championship, which will take place in Germany from June 14 to July 14 (21%), or the Six Nations rugby tournament, from February 2 to March 16 (15%).
The French are optimistic for the smooth running of the events
But if the French public is waiting for these Games, they are also expressing their concern. Thus, 74% of them express concern about transport. A figure increasing by eight points compared to the last barometer of this type published in October 2023. Concern about security also increases, from 62% to 65%. Finally, the same goes for the completion of the work within the planned deadline: 59% of French people think there will be a delay compared to 55% last October.
There remain two points on which the respondents are still mostly positive. Starting with the success of the opening ceremony: 59% say they are confident. But 71% of them thought so last October. Concerning the “successful conduct of the tests”, 61% of French people express their confidence compared to 68% in October 2023. Here again, the figure is falling. Finally, 55% of respondents think that French athletes will obtain good results during the Olympic Games. For comparison, 64% imagine good results from the French delegation during the Paralympic Games.
The survey was carried out online on a sample of 992 people representative of the French population, including 599 sports fans, on January 3 and 4.
