“I was very lucky”. Thomas, a sports enthusiast, is overjoyed. At 26, he is one of the lucky ones who had the primacy of his choices for the Paris 2024 Olympic Games. “Handball, wrestling, rugby 7, badminton…” he lists, all for one total slightly over 500 euros. Rather varnished by the draw, Picard had access to the ticket office on Friday morning, the day after the opening of this second phase of ticketing, individual this time, after a first salvo of grouped sales at the end of Winter. All did not have the same vein, since the Organizing Committee (Cojo) was pleased, Saturday, to have sold a million tickets in 48 hours.

In detail, 20 of the 32 disciplines on the program are already sold out. “I’m disappointed, I thought that by being drawn in the first, I could have a minimum of choice. But not even…”, laments Antoine, also connected Friday morning. The 24-year-old won, for lack of anything better, tickets for the football final, for a hundred euros when it was not his first choice. The organizers had however planned the coup as early as March. “There won’t be enough for everyone and I expect this second phase to continue to generate disappointment and frustration,” conceded Cojo president Tony Estanguet in mid-March in an interview with AFP. . 4 million people have indeed registered for this sales phase, while only 1.5 million tickets are available.

Places available… but especially outside Paris

Clearly, the Games attract and maintain a very high rating with the public, even if some of the interested parties have castigated, on social networks, the sometimes high prices. Clément, forty-something from the Ile-de-France region already disappointed by the first phase, paid the price for this raid. “I logged on Friday morning, full of hope,” he says. Eyeing tickets for climbing and breakdancing, he nevertheless had to fall back on beach volleyball. “It’s a bit disappointing! “, he concedes. He at least got his hands on a sesame, unlike Elisa, she too frustrated by the speed at which the tickets were sold. “Impossible to find places for less than 690 euros, I gave up,” she breathes, annoyed.

“There were places left for less than 100 euros for events with medals”, however swears the fortunate Thomas. The Cojo assured, for its part, that there were still tickets on sale on Saturday for less than 50 euros, but these relate, in their overwhelming majority, to events contested outside Paris. In detail, handball and basketball (in Lille), sailing (in Marseille) or football (in Lyon, Saint-Étienne, Nice or Marseille) fall into this category. But given the general dynamics, these seats should not remain vacant for long.
