With her 48 kg and her 62 meter, Audrey does not really have the typical physique of a security guard. However, since mid-June, the student in a master’s degree in history has been training in the Paris region to obtain the professional card of APS, or “Prevention and Security Agent”. A sesame valid for two years which will allow him to work on all the major sporting and cultural events which will be held in France by October 2025, such as the Rugby World Cup, concerts, festivals… And the Olympic Games in Paris.

“I first chose this training to occupy my holidays while being paid, recognizes Audrey, but also to have the opportunity to participate in the organization of the Olympic Games”. To ensure the supervision and safety of spectators at the Paris Olympic and Paralympic Games, private security companies will indeed have to deal with major recruitment needs. Reason why 3,000 young volunteers from 18 to 25 years old will be trained in the APS function.

The training, free, lasts 106 hours and is spread over 3 weeks. The courses taken by Audrey and her twenty or so classmates are varied: first aid, notions of criminal law, drafting of handbooks, learning to palpate, OHS certification (First-aid worker at work), and awareness of the terrorist threat. The acquisition of skills and knowledge is monitored by an exam at the end of the training, which includes a questionnaire and a scenario.

Paid training, if validated

Bonus: all trainees who validate their training are paid 352 euros by Pôle emploi for the three weeks of lessons, supplemented by certain communities – thus students from the Ile-de-France region receive an additional bonus of 600 euros. All without any obligation to work as a security guard afterwards.

Registration is done directly with employment center which indicates the documents required to register: up-to-date identity document, proof of address, Vitale card. There are no physical requirements or level of sports practice, and if the sector remains male, it is open to girls.

Being a woman can even be an advantage in terms of salary: “One of our trainers assured us that girls can be paid more than boys, at 14 euros an hour instead of 12, because we are less numerous and that private security companies need women”, in particular to ensure the pat-downs of female spectators at the entrance to concerts or sporting events. Once is not custom.
